Cherished Annual Holiday Event Returns to MCAS New River Marina
Families basked in the magic of the holiday season during the MCCS Tree Lighting presented by GEICO Military on Sunday. The annual event has become a cherished tradition at MCAS New River for more than 30 years and brought yuletide cheer to all. The event offered another opportunity for families to enjoy the sounds, sights, and community unique to this time of year.

This year, the event returned to its roots and was held at the MCAS New River Marina.  "I'm glad we were able to bring it back down here. This location worked really well and helped facilitate a successful event," said Colonel Burnett, MCAS New River Commanding Officer. "This is my second year being able to come to the event and it's great for our families. I'm glad to see so many of them out here having a good time. The weather turned out great and the rain stayed away."

Guests were treated to hayrides, arts and crafts, and the return of the beloved holiday flotilla. Children beamed with excitement as they mailed handwritten letters to Santa Claus, Heartwarming live entertainment set the tone for the merry occasion. The 2D Marine Division Band performed a selection of holiday classics and the Lejeune Dance Company dazzled the audience with their graceful choreography.

The excitement in the air was obvious as the holiday flotilla brought Santa and Mrs. Claus to shore by boat where Santa joined Colonel Burnett on stage. A countdown commenced and the switch was flipped, suddenly bringing the tree to life. Afterward, Santa and Mrs. Claus headed inside to visit with families and listen to Christmas wishes. The jolly pair made sure each guest felt the warmth and joy unique to the holidays.

"This was a great event and the location and set-up worked perfectly. My little ones loved being able to make the reindeer feed at the beginning and then head over to the playground. It was our first time seeing Santa this year, so they were really excited to be able to visit with him. The hot chocolate was a nice touch," said first-time attendee and spouse Morgan.

"This event was another example of the amazing support MCCS receives from not only the command, but the families as well," said Gunnery Sergeant Kidd, MCCS Semper Fit Recreation Branch Manager. With the signature tree now aglow, the holiday season has officially begun on MCAS New River!
