Active Duty service members and their families are invited to come celebrate the Marine Corps' 251st birthday together as a family. Share in the grand tradition and the wonderful experience of celebrating the Marine Corps Birthday.

Category Etiquette Guidelines
Before the Ball
  • Purchase tickets before the event deadline–Understand it's a formal, tradition-based event
  • Help your child learn basic Marine Corps customs (standing for colors, silence during honors)
  • Talk with your Marine about what to expect
Arrival & Timing
  • Arrive early (1 hour before the ceremony)
  • Doors will close before the ceremony begins
  • Late entry will be restricted until after the ceremony
  • Allow time for photos, coat check, and finding seats
Dress Code – Adults
  • Marines: Dress Blue Alpha (with medals, ribbons, and white gloves), no covers (hats) inside, ensure uniform is tailored, pressed, and complete
  • Women (civilians): Floor-length gown or formal cocktail dress (modest and tasteful)
  • Men (civilians): Suit and tie or tuxedo–avoid revealing or overly casual attire
Dress Code – Children
  • Boys: Dress pants, button-down shirt, tie or bowtie, dress shoes (blazer optional)
  • Girls: Modest dress (knee- to floor-length), dress shoes or flats- Neat, age-appropriate appearance
Ceremony Etiquette
  • Stand for the national anthem and presentation of colors
  • Remain quiet and respectful during the formal ceremony, and ensure all cell phones are silent
  • Explain the significance of the cake-cutting and the guest speaker to your child
  • Help children follow along and observe respectfully
Dining Etiquette
  • Teach table manners ahead of time
  • Use utensils properly, no phones at the table
  • Keep voices low at the table
Dancing & Socializing
  • Dancing is encouraged after the ceremony!
  • Maintain appropriate behavior and dress throughout the evening
Photos & Sharing
  • Photos are encouraged before and after the ceremony, tag MCCS Camp Pendleton – L.I.N.K.S.
  • Avoid taking photos or videos during the formal ceremony
  • Be respectful about what you share online
Teaching Opportunities
  • Use the event to introduce your child to Marine Corps history and tradition
  • Talk about respect, patriotism, and why the Corps honors its birthday
  • Encourage pride and curiosity in your child about military service
