Red Ribbon Week 2019

Red Ribbon Week is here, and wearing the red ribbon helps raise awareness of alcohol, tobacco and other drug abuse and violence prevention. This year's theme is Send a Message. Stay Drug Free.™ Supporting healthy choices, the theme is also a reminder that staying drug free is an great way to show how much you value yourself, your overall health, your community, and your future.

The Under Secretary of Defense for Personnel and Readiness designated October 23-31 as Red Ribbon Week each year. The awareness week promotes education and prevention of substance abuse across all military branches. Red Ribbon Week also honors the memory of former Marine and Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Special Agent Enrique S. Camarena, murdered by drug cartel members in 1985.

Check with your local Substance Abuse Program (SAP) office for more information on events around your installation. You can learn more about Red Ribbon Week at http://redribbon.org/.
