A Thanksgiving Feast of Generosity and Connection for Single Marines & Sailors
Last Thursday, a heartwarming tradition unfolded as the MCCS Lejeune-New River Single Marine Program (SMP) transformed seven of its Recreation Centers into vibrant hubs of holiday cheer. Over 1,400 single service members and geo-bachelors, temporarily separated from their families during the festive season, found solace and camaraderie amidst a community that cared deeply for them.

The air buzzed with excitement as the centers were transformed into culinary havens, offering a free catered meal complete with all the fixings. The aroma of roasted turkey, savory stuffing, and sweet pumpkin pie mingled with laughter and lively chatter, creating a tapestry of warmth and connection.

Beyond the dining tables, tournaments, events, movies, and other activities provided a welcome respite from the pangs of loneliness and homesickness. Giveaways and MCX gift cards sprinkled the moments with surprise and delight, adding to the festive atmosphere. Jolyne Agramonte, the Single Marine Program Branch Manager, eloquently expressed the significance of these annual holiday meals. "It's a way of honoring their dedication and sacrifices," she said, "a tangible expression of gratitude and a reminder that their service is deeply valued by their community."

The generosity extended beyond the SMP team, thanks to the unwavering support of program sponsor, Boingo and holiday meal sponsors Geico Military, Altec, and Marine Chevrolet. Their contributions not only warmed hearts but filled stomachs with the delicious flavors of the season, embodying the true spirit of giving.

"GEICO has been dedicated to serving and supporting military personnel since the company's inception in 1936," stated Chino Leiva, Military Agency Operations Manager, GEICO Military Affairs Team. "It's because of our long-standing commitment that we proudly support our single service members by sponsoring the Thanksgiving & Christmas Holiday meals at all the MCCS Lejeune- New River Single Marine Program Recreation Centers."

As the echoes of gratitude linger, the Single Marine Program looks ahead with anticipation to the upcoming Christmas dinner, promising another opportunity to wrap their single Marines and Sailors, along with the geo-bachelors, in the warmth of community and care on Christmas Day.

The SMP serves as a beacon of hope and support for single, unaccompanied Marines and any other single active duty service member. Through advocacy, recreational activities, special events, and community involvement, they tirelessly strive to enhance the quality of life for those who serve our nation with unwavering dedication.
