This program provides awareness and education to all members of the military community that encourages people to increase control over and to improve their full health potential.

Health & Wellness Education supports the achievement and sustainment of a fit and mission ready force and healthy populations, at home and abroad, in peacetime and in conflict. Each of these programs aligns with the US Department of Health and Human Services' Healthy People 2020 and the DOD's Operation Live Well and the Healthy Base Initiatives.

MCCS encourages and supports the participation of individuals of all abilities in its programs and facilities.

Our Health Education Technician delivers tailored unit briefs and guidance on topics such as performance nutrition and body composition principles, dietary supplements, sleep hygiene, injury prevention, and sexual health and responsibility – and more.

A full list of unit brief requests, which can be modified for operational specificity, can be viewed here. Please provide at least one week’s advance notice when submitting a request.

 

General Nutrition

This presentation provides foundational knowledge on healthy eating, covering macronutrients, portion sizes, food labels, and how to make informed choices at the grocery store, mess hall, and restaurants. Learn practical tips for meal planning, food safety, and building a balanced diet to support overall wellness – all while busting common weight-loss myths and misconception.

 

Performance Nutrition Education 

Designed with Human Performance Optimization in mind, this presentation explores how to fuel the body for training, recovery, and optimal performance. Topics include macronutrients and micronutrients, nutrient timing, hydration strategies, pre- and post-training meals, an overview of supplements, as well as field fueling tips tailored for military readiness and high-demand activities.

 

Dietary Supplements Education

This presentation provides an in-depth look at dietary supplements, including their benefits, risks, and proper use for performance. Topics include researched supplements like creatine and caffeine, how to spot unsafe products, third-party certifications, and the dangers of banned substances. Learn how to use supplements safely and effectively without compromising health or career.

 

Sleep Hygiene

This brief explores the importance of sleep for overall health, performance, and well-being. Topics include sleep quality and quantity, understanding circadian rhythms and chronotypes, the impact of caffeine, and strategies for improving sleep habits. Participants will learn practical tips for managing stress, creating a bedtime routine, and optimizing rest—especially in challenging schedules like shift work.

 

Injury Prevention

This injury prevention brief focuses on reducing musculoskeletal injuries that impact combat readiness. Learn about common causes—such as overuse, poor lifting technique, insufficient mobility, and improper footwear—and discover strategies to stay mission-ready through proper training, gear use, hydration, and recovery.

 

Sexual Health

This brief covers the foundations of sexual health, including its place in overall well-being, connection to mission-readiness, consent, common STIs and testing procedures, preventive care practices, and birth control options. Learn how to make informed, respectful, and safe choices to support your physical, emotional, and social well-being.

One-on-one consultations are available to active-duty personnel for general nutrition counseling, body composition testing, and resource referral. Please email to request an appointment. Appointments are subject to availability.

Monthly, recurring nutrition and sleep briefs are made available to all units and patrons with no reservation needed.
