MCCS Lejeune-New River’s 3rd Annual Marine Corps Birthday Golf Tournament
November 10, 2025, we celebrated 250 years of Marine Corps service at MCCS Lejeune-New River's 3rd annual Marine Corps Birthday Golf Tournament. The field was full for the first time, with 118 players! Opening ceremonies began with a warm welcome to participants ranging in age from 10 to 84 years old. Opening convocation prayer was presented by Golf Course Manager John R. Johnson, PGA, followed by MGySgt Joe Reed (Ret) giving tribute to Fallen Comrades as he explained all items displayed on the Fallen Comrades Table, such as the place setting, candle, and rose. Before the rules were read, Mr. Thompson shared a note from Gen John A. Lejeune about one of the longest traditions in the Marine Corps, the birthday cake cutting ceremony – cake cutting from the oldest (MGySgt Gil Richard) to the youngest (LCpl Anthony Bucio) Marine.
After the rules brief, play began. Two person teams, 18 holes, two competitive formats – a par 3 challenge (combined score) on the front 9 and scramble on the back 9. The field was flighted by skill level into five flights, the top 3 in each flight after 18 holes competed in a shootout to determine the overall Grand Champion. The shootout concluded with two teams tied on the final hole with a birdie, leading to a Closest to the Pin tie breaker.
Joe Reed and Randy Eckiwaudah edged out Tom Lefebvre and Nelly Lefebvre by 2 feet from 80 yards. Nelly Lefebvre represented the all-junior player making it to the finals with her dad. Congratulations to all!!
